Course Description:
The previous course of this series, Installing and Configuring Client Access/400, introduced an 11-step procedure for implementing a PC-to-AS/400 connection. This course, Configuring Client Access/400 on the AS/400, covers three steps of the procedure:
· Acquire the information you need for each client.
· Identify each client PC to the AS/400 host.
· Enroll users.

The course begins with a review of the AS/400-related connection tasks. It then introduces the AS/400 panels you can use to configure PC-to-AS/400 connections. Subsequent sessions of the course describe the connection process for the following connection types:
· Twinaxial connections
· Token-ring connections
· Ethernet connections
· SDLC connections
· Asynchronous connections
· TCP/IP connections

You should take one or more of these sessions depending on the type(s) of PC-to-AS/400 connection(s) that your organization will use. The final session of the course describes how to enroll users on the AS/400 system. This task must be performed for each user before he or she can connect to the AS/400 system.

   • Identify the PC naming rules enforced by Client Access
   • Display the Client Access Tasks and Configure PC Connections panels
   • Identify the information you need to collect before connecting a PC to an AS/400
   • Create line, controller, and device descriptions to connect a personal computer to OS/400
   • Update the AS/400's TCP/IP local host table to identify a personal computer to OS/400
   • Configure a TCP/IP SLIP connection
   • Enroll a Client Access/400 user on the AS/400 system
   • Identify a user as a Client Access/400 administrator

Audience: This course is intended for technical staff members who will be responsible for connecting one or more personal computers to an AS/400 computer system.

Prerequisites: This course assumes that you are familiar with the concepts and basic operations of both AS/400 and personal computer systems. A knowledge of data communications fundamentals is also required. The course also assumes you have a basic understanding of Client Access/400 concepts and facilities. This prerequisite can be satisfied by successfully completing the Manta course Introduction to Client Access/400 for Windows 95/NT.

In addition, you should have an understanding of the Client Access/400 installation and configuration process.
