Course Description:
The first course of this series, Installing and Configuring Client Access/400, introduced an 11-step procedure for implementing a PC-to-AS/400 connection. This course, Installing Client Access/400 for Windows 95/NT on a PC, covers those steps of the procedure that you perform on a personal computer. It also covers procedures that you will find useful in the day-to-day administration of Client Access.

The course begins with a description of various ways in which Client Access for Windows 95/NT can be installed on a personal computer. These include using the IBM-supplied CD-ROM or diskettes, creating your own installation diskettes, and installing from a LAN file server.

The course then describes the maintenance of Client Access using service packs. You will see how service can be applied automatically, and how to create service pack diskettes when automatic application is not possible. Next, the course walks through the installation process, showing you how to configure Client Access/400, Windows, and/or the NetSoft NS/Router for the following connection types:
· Twinaxial connections
· LAN connections (both token-ring and Ethernet)
· SDLC connections
· Asynchronous connections
· TCP/IP connections
· IPX/SPX connections
· NetWare for SAA connections
· SNA over TCP/IP (AnyNet) connections

The course then describes ways to update Client Access after it has been installed on a PC. Tasks discussed include installing a service pack manually, performing a selective setup to add additional Client Access components, and defining a second connection for a laptop PC that is used both in the office and on the road. Finally, the course investigates related security issues, including the use of multiple profiles on a Windows 95/98 PC and the use of Windows 95/98 password caching.
