Course Description:
This course covers how to compile and execute ILE RPG programs. The course first describes the concepts related to ILE and introduces the OS/400 tools that are used to create ILE applications. Then, in simulated OS/400 sessions, you will learn the steps required to create an ILE RPG application. You will see how to compile an RPG IV program, bind it with other modules, and execute the resulting program. You will also see how to perform the compile and bind operations in a single step.

The course then describes how to package multiple procedures into an ILE service program. Finally, the course covers the tools to create, edit, and use a binding directory.

After completing this course, you should be able to:
   • List the steps required to create an executable ILE RPG program
   • Compile an RPG program
   • Identify and describe the types of objects that can be used as input to a bind operation
   • Create an executable ILE program
   • Create a service program

Audience: This course is intended for programmers new to the RPG programming language. It can also be taken by RPG III programmers who will be developing ILE RPG applications.

Prerequisites: This course assumes that you are familiar with computer programming concepts. In order to satisfy this prerequisite, you should have some programming experience with another programming language. The course also assumes that you have a working knowledge of basic OS/400 concepts and facilities. You can satisfy this prerequisite by successfully completing the courses in the following series:
· Using an iSeries System

Finally, the course assumes that you have a basic understanding of RPG programming concepts. You can satisfy this prerequisite by successfully completing the first course in this series:
